Have you seen the new bowling alley? It’s a beauty, one of the best to be found in the State. All Saturday evening Gifford’s Orchestra played and people were coming and going all the time. Every alley was in use every minute and the rolling balls and falling pins were an accomplishment for the orchestra selections. Many ladies attended. It was the opening for the new Lewiston and Auburn alley. The hall in the Co-Operative Building on Main street over Spear & Webster’s Grocery Store, has been converted into a dandy bowling alley by George Jordan of Maynard, Mass., and H. M. Harmon of Portland.

William P. Tewhey, executive vice president of the Lewiston Chamber of Commerce, met the family from Quebec while taking a quick look around to see how business was going. “This family of six came here just for Dollar Days,” said Tewhey, “They plan to stay just one night and shop both Dollar Days. Strains of “Hava Nagila” could be heard coming from the area of the gazebo in Kennedy Park in Lewiston early Monday night. Church bells throughout the city rang gloriously, proclaiming that the Franco-American Festival is back for a third year. The park may have been without power for an hour or so, but the spirit never waned. The Franco-American Festival opened with its usual flair and parade of dignitaries – including Gov. Joseph Brennan – Monday night, despite intermittent power problems that not only delayed the opening of the ceremonies but ended them rather abruptly as well.
