MEXICO – Selectmen on Wednesday will deal with the possible reorganization of the police and recreation departments, and consider updates of the duties of the town manager and assistant to the town manager.
Their meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. in the town office conference room.
Town Manager Joseph Derouche said Police Chief Jim Theriault will present a plan for reorganization based on townspeople’s approval of adding a fifth officer to the force. A closed session is planned for later in the meeting to discuss a Police Department matter and to discuss possible changes in the police union contract.
Derouche plans to outline a possible reorganization of the Mexico Recreation Program, including the Wellness Center. Again, later in the meeting, a closed session is planned to discuss a personnel issue related to the Wellness Center.
The board will meet with SAD 43 Superintendent James Hodgkin to discuss a variety of issues raised at last month’s selectmen’s meeting. Among them is information on the funding of special education programs and the number of students enrolled in such programs.
Selectmen are expected to take a stand on the so-called Palesky tax cap proposal, which will be on the November election ballot.
Other agenda items include:
• Four public hearings for farmer’s market vendors.
• Appointment of a sealer of weights and measures.
• Setting up a tour of the River Valley Technology Center for selectmen.
• Action on a tax anticipation note.
• Action on a Mexico Public Library grant.
• Establishment of regular meeting times for the town manager and office employees.
