SCARBOROUGH – The Maine Elks Association held its second annual “Owie Box” motorcycle ride for children in the Maine Children’s Cancer Program on July 24.
The event attracted 62 motorcycle enthusiasts, who raised a total of $14,023 for the cancer program and its “Owie Box” program, designed to provide a toy to a child who has undergone a painful cancer treatment.
The ride began at the Rockland Elks Lodge, and followed a route that took the riders through Central Maine before arriving in Scarborough. Along the route, the riders stopped at the Augusta, Lewiston and Portland Elks lodges, where additional riders joined the procession.
The riders were given a barbecue lunch, as well as tours of the Maine Children’s Cancer Program facility. Concluding the event was a check presentation made on behalf of the Maine Elks Association by event coordinators Skip Guay of the Augusta Lodge, Dwayne Guy and Maine Elks State President Luis Morales of the Rockland Lodge.
Another ride is being planned for next year.
