OXFORD – For some it was a return to victory lane but for a majority of winners it was their first victory of the season as the Big Apple Summer Racing Series resumed at Oxford Plains Speedway on Wednesday.

Vanna Brackett of Oxford made the most of her abbreviated track time as the Ladies completed the July 14 feature that was called due to rain.

It was the Oxford driver’s first win of the season.

Brackett held the lead when the original race was called and started in front for the finish. It was the only spot on the track she would hold.

The battle for second and third was between mother Debra Martin and daughter Deanna Bisbee. Martin ran second to Brackett until Lap 18 when Bisbee got underneath her for the second place finish. Martin finished third.

Lisa Vining and Tina Springer rounded out the top five.

Gary Chiasson, Curtis Fanjoy, and Maurice Martel, Jr. all posted wins in the three Runnin’ Rebel features.

Chiasson, who entered the night fourth in points in the division, took the lead from Jamie Heath with four laps remaining for the win. He did not enter the top five till midway through the race, following Heath.

It was Chiasson’s third checkered flag this year.

Tyson Jordan and Troy Jordan followed.

Martel made easy work of his 20-Lap win, leading wire-to-wire in the completely green flag event.

Peter Green of Poland chased Martel the entire way and crossed the line in second place but was disqualified, moving Jeremy Heath officially into second spot.

John Doe was third, Larry Lizotte fourth, and Zach Audet fifth.

Curtis Fanjoy picked up his second win of the season as the Turner driver took command on Lap 7 and never looked back.

Fanjoy took advantage of a restart on Lap-5 to get a shot at Gerlad Record who had taken the point from Gerard Parlin just two laps before.

Record ending up chasing Fanjoy’s tail the remainder of the way.

Derek Cairns of Waterford found his way to the front by Lap-6 and finished third.

Chris Martin became a repeat winner when he took advantage of a case of 52-pickup to win the Sports Truck feature.

On Lap-5, Scott Marston of Mechanic Falls rolled his truck on the backstretch bringing out a red flag. Many drivers seemed oblivious to the signal and were sent to the back on the restart as a penalty. Marston who was fifth before the accident, came out in first. A slot he held for the rest of the 20-lap event.

None of the top four trucks before the red flag figured in the final result.

Lee Spurling of New Gloucester joined the leaders two-third of the way through and moved up to finish second. Paul Fearon, Mike Blue, and Jim Short completed the leaderboard.

Daryl Varney, Addison Bowie, and Bob Ferguson took the checkers in the three Outlaw features.

Varney took the point from Matt Smith on Lap 6 and ran away with the field in the high points Outlaw feature for his second win of the season. Smith and Mike Ballard each had a turn chasing the Lisbon driver but the No. 27 car had a sizable lead at the end. Ballard finished second with Smith out of the top five.

Jeremy Leavitt didn’t figure in the top five until the midpoint of the race and finished third.

Bowie’s win was a start-to-finish show for the Auburn driver as he outpaced the rest of the field.

Bruce Robertson was second for most of the race but fell to John Patria late to finish third.

Stan Morgan and Don Veinott rounded out the top five.

There was a scary moment in this feature as Tony Wight slammed his No. 83 car into the front stretch wall so hard it sent a thud through the grandstand.

Wight walked to a nearby emergency vehicle under his own power, waving to the crowd as his car sat directly under the flag stand.

Ferguson didn’t even figure in the top five until Lap 12 when he moved all the way into second place chasing Scott Gabory of Windham. Gabory held the lead just two laps before Ferguson took control.

Keith Landry, who’s appearance was also late amongst the leaders, edged out Dave Brown for second.

Jay Wilkins and Robert Morey completed the top five.
