WESTBROOK – The continued record-setting success of the Maine Credit Unions’ Campaign for Ending Hunger means assistance for the credit unions that raise funds for hunger organizations in the communities they serve.

Four credit unions from the Lewiston/Auburn area were among the 36 Maine credit unions to receive a record $65,000 in community grants to distribute to hunger organizations of their choice in their own communities.

The amount was announced by the Maine Credit Union League’s Social Responsibility Committee. The 2003 Credit Union Campaign for Ending Hunger raised a record-setting $209,035.75. With no administrative costs or expenses, 100 percent of the funds stay in Maine and go toward ending hunger.

The top 25 campaign fund-raisers in two categories received grants and will distribute them to local food banks and hunger organizations throughout the year.

The credit unions in the Lewiston/Auburn area to receive a community grant include Lewiston Municipal Federal Credit Union, Maine Family Federal Credit Union in Lewiston, Otis Federal Credit Union in Jay and Sabattus Regional Credit Union in Sabattus.
