FARMINGDALE – Donnell D. Graham died at his home in Farmingdale on Sunday, Aug. 1, after a brief illness.

A son of David and Susie Graham, he was born Aug. 22, 1919, in Houlton. He graduated from Houlton High School and Farmington State Teachers College and received his master’s degree from Springfield College.

During World War II he served in Africa and Italy as a member of the Tenth Mountaineering Division. He was a life-long educator and served as high school principal in Kingfield, Jay and Madison, as well as Lincoln Jr. High in Portland. He later worked for the State Department of Education as director of the Title 1 Program and the Maine Migrant Program. For many years, he was a VITA volunteer, assisting senior citizens with their income taxes.

He was a member of the Maine Harness Horsemen Association and owned racehorses for over 40 years. He was an avid reader, loved animals, gardening and all sports. He was a communicant of St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church. He delighted in his family and many friends and was always available to those who wanted his advice. He lived life to the fullest and will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.

“Don” is survived by his wife, Grace; his son, Michael Graham and wife, Pam, of Weld; his daughter, Bette Murray and husband, Ron, of Falmouth; his daughter, Lisa Davidson, of New Hampshire; a special niece, Sandra Merz, of Connecticut; stepchildren, Vicky Niles and Meg Merrill, of Manchester, John Wenckus, of New Hampshire and Peter Wenckus, of Pittston; eight grandchildren, John and Peter Murray, Amy, Jese, John and Megan Graham, Bobbi-Jean Johnson and Jennifer Samson; and eight great-grandchildren.
