FALMOUTH, Mass. (AP) – A Falmouth man faced arraignment in connection with the body of a homeless woman found in wooded conservation land near the Mashpee border.

Thomas Winner, 47, was charged with assault and battery with serious bodily injury stemming from the death of Lisa Ann Brundage, 41, whose body was found Sunday, police said.

Winner was to be arraigned Monday in Falmouth District Court. Additional charges could be added after the results of an autopsy by the State Medical Examiner’s office, which were expected Monday, officials said.

“They (Brundage and Winner) were well-known to each other,” Cape and Islands District Attorney Michael O’Keefe confirmed Sunday night in a phone interview with the Cape Cod Times. “It would appear that they were (homeless) at the present time.”

O’Keefe would not elaborate on the case, saying it remains under investigation.

“We’ve contacted family members, and next of kin have been notified, with respect to the deceased,” O’Keefe said.

Brundage’s body was found in the early afternoon in state woods north of Route 28, bordering the Quashnet River. It was unclear how far into the woods the body had been abandoned.

Several nearby residents said the area where the body was found is frequently used by young people for loud late-night parties, but they heard no commotion over the weekend.
