ST. JOHNSBURY, Vt. (AP) – State Police Sgt. Pat Devenger has resigned, two months after he was accused of leaving the scene of an accident.
State police confirmed Devenger’s resignation but provided no details.
The state’s attorney’s office and the attorney general’s office investigated the allegations and determined Devenger had not committed a crime.
Devenger’s twin brother, Paul, is the police chief in St. Johnsbury. There were also allegations, raised by some members of his police force, that Paul Devenger had tried to interfere with the original probe into the accident.
Pat Devenger had been with state police for 16 years, most recently serving in Bradford. Prior to 2001, he had been with the St. Johnsbury barracks.
