PORTLAND – Roger Clifton Tarbell, 80, of Stow Corner, died Aug. 1, at Maine Medical Center.
He was born in Healdville, Vt., Aug. 9, 1923, the son of Raymond and Vinnie (Shattuck) Tarbell. He graduated from the University of Maine-Orono with a degree in Agriculture.
He had lived in Stow most of his life where he ran a dairy farm for many years. He was also a carpenter and was most recently employed at Shaw’s. He served for many years on the Board of Selectman for the town of Stow, most of those years as Chair.
In 1996, the town of Stow honored him with “The Outstanding Citizen Award.” His hobbies included collecting hats and model trains. He was a member of the Stow Baptist Church and enjoyed gardening, flowers, and going out to eat.
Surviving family includes his wife of 50 years, Gwendolyn (Allen) Tarbell of Stow; two daughters, Polly Bartow, of Otisfield, and Susan Smith, of Stow; two brothers, Donald, of Belmont, Vt., and Francis, of Mount Holly, Vt.; three grandchildren, Jonathan and Adam Bartow and Christopher Higgins; and one great-grandchild, Samuel Bartow.
