LEWISTON – Lillian C. Marcoux, 90, formerly of 380 East Ave., Lewiston, died at d’Youville Pavilion Monday afternoon, Aug. 2, following a long illness.

A native of Lewiston, she was born Dec. 13, 1913, the daughter of the late Beecher and Elmire (Therrien) Casson Sr. She graduated an honor student from Lewiston High School in the Class of 1931.

She married George Marcoux of Exeter, N.H., on Oct. 11, 1937, and together they managed Mar-Vac Photo Inc. for over 40 years. He passed away on Jan. 10, 1991.

She joined the Lewiston-Auburn BPW Club on Feb. 8, 1945, and was a continued member since. She has served as president and all other executive offices of the local club plus chairmanships on all committees. In 1979, she compiled a history entitled “The Progress of Business and Professional Women in Sixty Years,” which was included in the 60th anniversary program celebrating the 60th anniversary of the receipt of the Lewiston-Auburn BPW Club charter in October of 1919. She also worked with past president Clare Burgess in compiling the 60th Anniversary Cookbook, which includes recipes from women worldwide in addition to favorite recipes of local men and women contributors.

In May of 1964, she was the local chairman of the Futurama held for the fourth year in Augusta by the Maine Federation of BPW Clubs. Other offices held in the State Federation have been second vice-president, state membership chairman, state personal development chairman and state director of District Directors. In 1967, she was a state delegate to the National Convention in New York City. In October of 1970, the Maine Federation presented a very successful leadership conference and Lost Valley Ski Resort in Auburn, with Lillian C. Marcoux as general chairman. She was named “Woman of the Year” in October 1980 by the Lewiston-Auburn BPW Club.

When color finishing was installed at Mar-Vac Photo, she learned the duties of a color technician. In September of 1968 she completed a course in management and supervision with the Master Photo Dealers and Finishers Association, receiving a certificate of merit.

Her hobby was raising orchids, which she displayed at two Futurama shows in the 1960s. At this time she had an article printed in Schirmer’s Orchid News of Malibu, Calif., explaining the growth of orchids in Maine under artificial lighting. Letters written to editors and politicians for the past 15 years have been compiled into two recently published books entitled “Letters To The Editor” and “More Letters To The Editor.”

She was a member of St. Patrick’s Church. Besides belonging to BPW she was a member of the National Writer’s Club, the American Orchid Society, the Maine State Society for the Protection of Animals and the National Wildlife Association.

Survivors include five sisters, Alberta Casavant, of Lewiston, Alice Merrill, of North Turner, Mrs. William (Althea) Thomas, of Peabody, Mass., Mrs. David (Clarice) Tapley, of Lewiston and Barbara Bubier, of Greene; one brother, Edgar Casson and his wife, Mary, of Lewiston; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a sister, Lois Casavant; and one brother, Beecher Casson Jr.
