Society events

NORWAY – The last Norway Historical Society monthly meeting featured a talk by Bryant Gurney. He spoke of being a kid in downtown Norway in the 1930s and of the buildings and people there, with a rough map to explain it.

The evening was videotaped so that it can be replayed in the future and be shown on local access Channel 2. The guest speaker was given a copy of the video.

The society’s house has been open more this summer to reach tourists. Hours are 9 a.m. to noon Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays until September.

A major project is the cataloging of the collection of music albums, which came from the Joe Quinn estate. Curator Charles Longley is entering the data on computer.

Most of the historical society’s massive records are on paper, and there are presently no plans to put them on computer.

The society will celebrate its 30th year in October.
