RUMFORD – Two people were injured Sunday night after the truck they were riding in crashed into the Rumford-Mexico bridge over the Swift River.

Driver Glendon Whyte, 44, of Byron and passenger Judith Hansen, 48, of Saco were taken by Med-Care Ambulance first to Rumford Hospital and then to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston, Detective Sgt. Stacy Carter said.

Whyte was treated and released, but Hansen was being treated for a broken arm and broken shoulder Wednesday, Sgt. George Cayer said. On Thursday, a CMMC nursing supervisor said that Hansen was no longer a patient.

Cayer, who investigated the crash with Officer Douglas Maifeld, discovered drug parphernalia in Whyte’s totaled 1993 GMC pickup, Carter said. Whyte was summonsed on a charge of possession of drug paraphernalia. He is to be arraigned Oct. 5 in Rumford District Court.
