RUMFORD – Irene Fontaine Combs, 82, of Woodstock, Conn., formerly of Rumford, died Saturday, Aug. 7, at Rumford Community Hospital.

She was born in Rumford on April 29, 1922, one of 10 children to Edward and Celina (Prevost) Fontaine.

Irene was educated in Rumford Schools. She married Armand DeCormier, of Lewiston, with whom she had five children. She later married Frederick Combs of Auburndale, Fla.

Irene was a loving mother and a very warm and giving person. Those who knew her fell in love with her. She was an advocate of education and always took the time to teach her gifts to those around her. Irene was also a very spiritual person.

She is survived by a son, Raymond DeCormier and wife Fran of Berlin, Conn.; four daughters, Joyce DeCormier of Colchester, Conn., Carol Balducci and husband Joseph of West Peru, Linda DeCormier of Southington, Conn., and Grace Baril and husband Richard of Woodstock, Conn.; a brother, Herman Fontaine of Lakeland, Fla.; eight grandchildren, Mark Brundage, Jasmine and Bethany-Rose Hemphill, Matthew and Dylan Balducci, Brittany DeCormier, and Paul and Michelle Baril.

She was predeceased by her first husband, Armand DeCormier, and her second husband, Frederick Combs; six brothers, Leo, Louis, Edward, Henry, Robert and Gilbert Fontaine; and two sisters, Rose Fortin and Eva Auger.
