RANGELEY – The Rangeley Lakes Region Historical Society will hold its annual program at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 11, at the Rangeley High School.
It will feature Gary Priest, author of “History of Rangeley Hotels and Camps,” who’ll present a program on the Mingo Spring Hotel, the building of the first camps in 1895 and the grand hotels in 1906 through the 1950s.
The program will include the backgrounds of Fred Belcher, who began the camps, and James Munyon, a Rangeley philanthropist. Priest will incorporate information about several other camps located on Rangeley Lake in the early 1900s. There will be numerous slides, maps and advertisements of Dr. Munyon’s curative products.
The evening will include an induction into the Rangeley Region Guides’ and Sportsmen’s Hall of Fame. This year Bud Wilcox will be honored. Prior years’ inductees include Carrie Stevens, Herb Welch, Capt. Fred Baker, Ed Grant, Elizabeth Morris and Skeet Davenport.
The annual silent auction will include numerous fishing and sporting items, gift certificates for dining and accommodations, clothing and artwork.
A complimentary dessert will be provided. The Historical Society and the Guides & Sportsmen’s Association offer this program without charge as a way of thanking the community for its support.
