SANDWICH, Mass. (AP) – A 23-year-old Cape Cod man was shot in the head and died en route to Boston on Saturday, according to Barnstable police.

Jason Wells, of Barnstable, was shot just before 5 p.m. on Saturday, and died as he was being flown to Boston Medical Center, according to Sandwich police.

Police arrested Daniel Prunty, 44, who lives at the Palomino Way address in Sandwich where Wells was shot. Prunty was scheduled to be charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon in Barnstable District Court on Monday morning, police said.

Police and Cape and Islands District Attorney Michael O’Keefe are investigating the shooting.
