WEST DEPTFORD, N.J. – Greg Abelli fired a six-hit shutout and had two hits at the plate as Billerica American, Mass., knocked out Auburn Suburban 6-0 in an elimination game at the 2004 Senior Little League Eastern Regional at Union Field on Monday morning.

Abelli, who entered the game with an ERA of infinity in the regional after giving up a run without an out in his first appearance Saturday, struck out five and walked one in earning the complete game victory.

Billerica American scored twice in the third and tacked on a single run in the fourth to take command. Abelli singled and scored on a double steal in the fourth to give his team a 3-0 lead, one of two stolen bases for him on the day. He also singled in the sixth, stole second, and scored on an RBI single by John Palumbo.

Abelli leads the regional with nine hits in 13 at-bats. The regional record for hits in a tournament is 14.

David Lutz went 2-for-2 to pace Auburn Suburban. Tyler Dorris, Justin Ciszewski, Kyle Giguere and Chris Merrill also had hits for Auburn.

Starting pitcher Ciszewski, who was credited with the loss, Giguere, Derek Doucette and Lutz combined for nine strikeouts.

Billerica American will face the loser of Monday night’s winner’s bracket game between West Deptford, NJ and Freehold Township, NJ in another elimination bracket game on Tuesday.
