J. Mellen Cummings of South Paris was arrested this afternoon for riding a bicycle on the sidewalk on Washington street. He pleaded guilty and was fined the costs of the court. Mr. Cummings said that he didn’t know but what it was all right to ride on the Auburn sidewalks.

50 Years Ago, 1954

Another objective of the long range planning program for the town of Lisbon is the completion of the water tank for Lisbon Falls Village, situated on the Crosman’s Hill, adjacent to the old water tank, now abandoned. The new tank, which was voted unanimously at a special town meeting in September 1952, has just been completed. Delay for the building of the structure was waiting for shipments of welded steel, of which the tank is constructed.

25 Years Ago, 1979

After 10 years of disappointment, research, designing and redesigning, and two energy crunches. Thom Labrie has returned to his original choice – he is building an underground home on his land. The concrete foundation on the land facing the Androscoggin River in Greene has just been poured and Labrie, now firmly convinced that his underground house is “the only way to go,” says he is confident he has decided on a home design that will last forever.
