SUDBURY, Vt. (AP) – A driver lost control of her car and crashed head-on into a summer camp’s passenger van Friday, sending 14 people to area hospitals, police said.

All 10 of the children from Camp Killooleet in Hancock were taken to hospitals. Police did not provide their identities or detail their injuries.

Police said Adriana Baranello, 22, of Homer, N.Y., was driving a 2002 Volkswagen Jetta south on Vermont Route 30 when witnesses said she lost control and crossed the center line. She hit the 1998 Dodge passenger van driven by Julia Swee, 24, of Highland Park, N.J., in the 10:50 a.m. crash.

Police said it was raining lightly at the time of the crash, but that visibility was not restricted.

Eight of those injured were taken to the Rutland Regional Medical Center and six were taken to Porter Hospital in Middlebury.

Police said Baranello was later transferred to Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington for treatment of a broken leg and chest injuries.

A passenger in Baranello’s car, Megan McClure, 25, of Troy, Mich., suffered several injuries, police said. She was first taken to the Rutland hospital and later transferred to the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H.

Swee, who suffered a shoulder industry, was treated at the Rutland hospital.
