EUSTIS – Deputies charged six people with various crimes Thursday, including burglary and illegal drugs, while investigating a camper burglary.
Franklin County deputies received a call about 9:05 a.m. from a woman reporting her camper at a campsite on the Old Dead River Road on Trout Brook in Bigelow Township had been burglarized, Deputy Aaron Turcotte said.
When deputies arrived, the woman reported she saw some of her camping items at another campsite, the deputy said.
Turcotte and Cpl. Stephen Charles went to the other site and ended up charging Wanda Ellsworth, 40, of Eustis with possession of scheduled W drugs, he said.
She allegedly had some illegal prescription drugs, he said.
After leaving the campsite and heading back up the road, deputies observed a vehicle that the camper owner reported seeing, he said.
Cpl. Charles found Hydrocodone in driver Shawn Lord’s possession, Turcotte said.
After a consent search of the vehicle, Turcotte said, Lord, 21, of Eustis, was arrested on a charge of possession of scheduled drugs.
Deputies also discovered items stolen from the camper, Turcotte said.
The passenger and the owner of the vehicle, Sarah Slocomb, of Stratton was charged with furnishing scheduled drugs, he said.
United States Border Patrol agents and county Sgt. Steven Lowell came to assist deputies, he said.
As the search of the vehicle was under way, Turcotte said, Lord’s mother, Wanda Ellsworth and Joan Jackson, 50, of Wilton arrived on the scene walking.
Ellsworth became disorderly, he said, and she was arrested on a charge of disorderly conduct.
Jackson, Lord and Ellsworth were eventually charged with burglary, Turcotte said.
Deputies received information during this time that Michael Franks, 23, of Farmington was at Slocomb’s apartment in violation of a protection order.
Franks was found hiding in a closet and arrested, he said.
Also arrested was Krystal Matuszak, 19, of Eustis on a charge of possession of scheduled drugs and possession of hypodermic needles and other paraphernalia, he said.
