CASCO – A total of five people were hurt in two separate highway crashes in Casco and Hartford on Monday, state police said.
Four people were hurt Monday afternoon when an SUV and a concrete truck collided on Route 302 and Sebago Lake State Park Road in Casco, state police said.
Randall Pike, 40, of Raymond was identified as the driver of the P&K Sand & Gravel concrete mixer, Trooper Adam Fillebrown said. Pike was listed in serious condition at Maine Medical Center in Portland late Monday night, a nursing supervisor said.
The identities of the man driving the Toyota 4Runner and his four passengers were not released because some of them were from outside Maine and their families were being notified, the trooper said.
Fillebrown said the SUV was headed west on Route 302 toward Windham when it apparently crossed into the path of the cement truck. He said Pike tried to avoid the collision but was not able to miss it. The front driver’s side of each vehicle hit, he said.
Both vehicles were destroyed. P&K Sand & Gravel business is located on Route 11 in Naples.
The 3:45 p.m. closed the highway for several hours, the trooper said.
Cumberland County Sheriff’s deputies and Maine State Police responded to the scene, along with Casco, Naples and Raymond Rescue.
State Police were heading the investigation Monday night.
In Hartford, a 17-year-old Sumner teen was seriously injured Monday night when his late model sedan left Route 219, climbed a banking and struck a tree, Sgt. Percy Turner said early today.
He was taken to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston. His identity was not released pending notification of his family, Turner said.
