After four years of keeping relatively quiet and out of boldface type, First Twins Jenna and Barbara Bush are going to shake it like a Polaroid picture at the GOP convention in New York. The recent college grads will host the opening bash Sunday, Aug. 29, at Roseland Ballroom with Outkast’s sartorially splendid Andre 3000, Stephen Baldwin (the shy, Republican Baldwin), Barret Swatek (“7th Heaven”), Angie Harmon (“Law & Order,” Neutrogena ads) and defensive back husband Jason Sehorn (no longer a Giant, now a Ram), and Bo “Still a 10” Derek.
Jen and Bar also may pop up at a gay wedding event next month, the New York Daily News reports, when their eyebrow waxer Erwin Gomez celebrates his marital vows with partner James Packard. The twins have expressed support for the couple, who wed in San Francisco last spring. President Bush, who did not approve this item, firmly opposes gay marriage.
In an effort to honor equal time, we bring this update on Democratic candidate John Kerry, who spoke to GQ magazine about love over a beer, brand unknown. “Look for what gets your heart – someone who excites you, turns you on,” he said. And for Kerry, that is “a woman who loves being a woman. Who wears her womanhood. Who knows how to flirt and have fun. Smart. … And obviously sexy and saucy and challenging. … Thank God I found Teresa,” he said, alluding to wife Teresa Heinz Kerry. Other women he likes? Charlize Theron (“extraordinary”), supremely litigious Catherine Zeta-Jones, curvaceous yet dead Marilyn Monroe.
Of his failed first marriage to Julia Thorne, Kerry tells the men’s magazine “I think you’re always saddened by it.” Of the period that followed, he said, “Those were not good days is all I can say. I think if you ask anyone, (former Nebraska Sen.) Bob Kerrey, or anyone who’s been single on Capitol Hill, you’ll find it’s no fun,” adding “that’s not a good world, and everyone wants a piece of you.” On other matters, Kerry says among his favorite athletes are Bobby Orr, Jaromir Jagr, Wayne Gretzky, Joe DiMaggio and Phil Esposito. Favorite musician? Bob Dylan. “He’s brilliant. I mean, I can name any number of his songs that I love, but you know, “Lay across my big brass bed’ – “Lay, Lady, Lay.”‘
