PHILLIPS – The Phillips “Old Gym” Zone Coalition Board is announcing the opportunity to check out the gym at 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 20, on Depot Street. Thanks to the gift of the Prescott Fairbanks American Legion post of Phillips, the coalition is planning to take ownership of the building later this month.

The coalition will rafflle off a hand-crafted doll house donated by Jane and Jerry Haines of Avon. People of all ages are encouraged to stop by and take a look at the building. From 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. outside of the gym, a basketball foul-shooting contest will be held for adults and youths. A trophy will be awarded to the winning participant of each category.

Board members will be on hand to discuss plans for the gym and to gather facts about the history of the building. The board needs the input of area citizens on what they would like to see as part of this new community center.

Anyone interested in helping the group or making some other contribution is asked to stop by the gym on Friday or to contact co-chairs David Robie at 639-2713, Jill Berry Bowen at 639-4466, or vice-chair Gillian Trapp at 639-4060.
