LEWISTON – The Smashers, a Lewiston youth tennis team, will represent Maine at the New England USA Team Tennis Championships (Intermediate Level, 10-14) to be held August 24-25 in Wallingford, Conn. All matches will be played at the Choate Rosemary Hall complex.

The Smashers and another Lewiston team, the Lobbers, qualified for the recent State Championships held at the Racket & Fitness Center in Portland. A round robin was played with a third team from Kennebunk. The Smashers prevailed, 67 games to 66. Although the Lobbers lost, it was a player from that team, Conroy LeBlond, who took 2 games from Kennebunk to provide the victory for the Smashers. Other members of the Lobbers are Jessica Bowen, Emilie Cloutier, Mary Emerson, Frankie Lally, Sara Marden, Matthew Butler, Alex Chicoine, Elliot Chicoine, Chris Jacques, Matt Letourneau, Andrew Marden, Spencer Ouellette and Abby Blaisdell.

Members of the Smashers are: Calvin Chicoine, Audrey Bergeron, Julia Bergeron, Kasey Boucher, Michael Butler, Will Emerson, Stephanie Gagne, Chantalle Lavertu, Ben McDonough, Jonnie McDonough, Devin Van Dyke and Ashley Morgan.

All members of the Lewiston teams are from the Lewiston Recreation Summer Tennis Program.

This is the third trip for a Lewiston team to the New Englands Championships. Lewiston won the title in 2000, and finished runner-up in 2002, losing a tie-breaker.
