HONOLULU, Hawaii – Richard H. Ames, 74, died Wednesday, July 21, at his home in Honolulu, Hawaii.
Born in Flagstaff, Sept. 7, 1929, a son of Hazen and Hilda (Wing) Ames, “Dick” grew up in Flagstaff and graduated from Flagstaff High School.
He had several interesting and varied careers in his lifetime. He had been employed by Hinman’s Construction Co. prior to serving two years in the U.S. Army. After returning from the service, he worked on several dairy farms for many years as a herdsman. In 1972, he was employed by the Christian Science Church in Boston, Mass., as a gardener. He retired to Hawaii in the fall of 1996.
He enjoyed gardening, dancing and traveling. He traveled to many foreign countries prior to his retirement. He had many interesting experiences in his travels.
Surviving are a sister, Geraldine A. Bandlow and her husband, Richard, of Springvale; nieces, Kathy Bandlow, of South Portland and Donna Church, of Lancaster, N.H.; nephews, Terry Davis, of Scarborough and Alan Davis, of Florida; grandniece, Kristen Davis, of Scarborough; and grandnephews, Patrick Church, of Lancaster, N.H., and Craig and Erik Joncas, of Scarborough.
He was predeceased by a sister, Beulah A Skilling, and a brother, Robert M. Ames.
