LEWISTON – Chaplain Donald R. Levesque of Lewiston has been promoted to brigadier general, commander of Maine Brigade 1st Division of the U.S. Corps of Chaplains.

Commissioned in March 2004, the Maine Chaplains Command, a part of the 1st Division, Corps of Chaplains, is standing by to assist veterans, their families and community in time of need.

The Corps of Chaplains is made up of ordained Christian ministers and other volunteers from local communities. More ministers and other volunteers are needed to fill the many open positions in the organization.

The Corps of Chaplains is a volunteer uniformed organization ministering to all, with special emphasis on aid to active duty military members, veterans, retirees and their family members. It has ranks and unit designations similar to the U.S. Army but is not an entity of any branch of the military services.
