Having been a resident of Lewiston for about five months, living on Scribner Boulevard, I want to make a couple of observations.

The volume of traffic on this residential street is very heavy, and I realize not much can be done about that. But being a residential street, the speed is posted at 25 mph. The majority of vehicles don’t come anywhere close to that speed. I would guess most vehicles travel somewhere between 35 and 50 mph. Some of the motorcycles go by so fast it is hard to tell what color they are.

Drivers should slow down.

Another issue is the litter. It is spread the whole length of the street. On any given day, you can find fast food bags, cups and wrappers, as well as many other kinds of trash. And you wouldn’t believe the numbers of cigarette butts strewn on both sides of the road. The last I heard cars still come with ashtrays.

Let’s take a little pride in our city.
