FITCHBURG, Mass. (AP) – Two men were arraigned on multiple kidnapping charges on Thursday after a teenage girl returned home safely following the broadcast of an Amber Alert.

Francis G. Leach, 24, of Lunenberg, pleaded innocent at his arraignment in Fitchburg District Court on Thursday on charges that he helped to kidnap 17-year-old Karina Rincon.

Leach was arraigned on multiple charges of extortion, kidnapping, home invasion, armed assault and battery and burglary.

Leach posted $50,000 cash bail and was placed on 24-hour house arrest, said Elizabeth Stammo, a spokeswoman for the Worcester District Attorney.

John Conte. Leach was ordered to wear an electronic monitoring bracelet and to report to probation three times a week. He was also ordered to refrain from using drugs or drinking alcohol, Stammo said.

He is due back in court on Sept. 23 for a pre-trial conference.

His alleged accomplice, Nolen J. Holzapfel, 24, of Fitchburg, was arraigned on multiple kidnapping, home invasion and assault charges. He was ordered held without bail and is to appear in court for a dangerousness hearing on Sept. 23.

Police said Rincon disappeared from home at about 2:30 a.m. Wednesday, and that she may have been kidnapped to force payment in a drug-related business deal.

Amber Alerts are used to notify the public and other law enforcement agencies of a missing child who may be in danger.
