LEWISTON – The Downtown Neighborhood Association will hold its sixth annual Back to School Party from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 28, at the Pierce Street Park. All are welcome.

Auburn seniors
AUBURN – First Auburn Seniors will meet at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 1, and the board of directors will meet at 10 a.m. The Hasty Community Center will be close for repairs, so the meeting will take place at the American Legion on Washington Street.
There will be a raffle and pot of gold. Tickets will be on sale for the Sept. 14 beans and franks dinner.
Bill Redmun, chairman of the Oct. 9 fall fair, will form his committees. Following the bag lunch, bingo will be played.
The club met with the New Auburn Seniors on Aug. 18 for an indoor picnic and barbecue at Hasty Community Center. Games and cards were played along with the lunch. Bingo was played.
Legion meeting
LISBON FALLS – Nelson-Conley Post 66, American Legion, will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 1, at the Slovak Meeting Room, Avery Street. All members, prospective members and active-duty personnel are invited. The agenda will include discussion on the Christmas project and military serving in the Mid East.
Grange program
WALES – Members of Androscoggin Pomona Grange 1 will meet Wednesday, Sept. 1, at Wales Grange 40 on Center Road for a 6:30 p.m. supper. The business meeting will start at 7:30.
The program, under the direction of Maine State Master Steve Verrill, chairman of the Legislative Committee, will feature speaker Rob Brown of the Maine Taxpayers Foundation.
There will be an attendance drawing. All members and guests are invited.
Open house
LEWISTON – The South Lewiston Child Care Center will hold its annual open house from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 1.
The center has been serving families in the greater Lewiston-Auburn area for more than 30 years. The center is open from 6 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
South Lewiston Child Care has openings for children aged 2 to 5. They offer a pre-school type structured program. The program for the new school year will begin on Tuesday, Sept. 7. For more information, call the center during normal business hours at 784-2526.
Insurance speaker
AUBURN – The National Association of Insurance Women – Androscoggin Valley will meet Wednesday, Sept. 8, at Martindale Country Club, Beech Hill Road.
The meeting will begin with a social hour at 5 p.m. with dinner at 5:45 p.m. Patti Gagne will speak on “Life Insurance 101.”
The National Association of Insurance Women (International) is an association of insurance professionals dedicated to the development of leaders in the insurance industry.

Emblem Club
LEWISTON – Lewiston Emblem Club 528 will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 2, at the Lewiston Lodge of Elks, 1675 Lisbon St. All members are encouraged to attend. Tourney winners
LEWISTON – The Lewiston-Auburn Duplicate Bridge Club met on Aug. 24 at the Multi-Purpose Center. A STaC Tournament was held and the winners in Flight A were: first, David Lock and Rosemarie Goodwin; second, Leslie Buzzell and Nancy Lindgren; third, William and Cynthia Clifford; fourth, Anna Vitiello and Helen Little; fifth, Charles Bartlett and Allie Boyer.
Winners in Flight B were: first, Leslie Buzzell and Nancy Lindgren; second, William and Cynthia Clifford; third, Anna Vitiello and Helen Little; fourth, Charles Bartlett and Allie Boyer.
Flight C winners were: first, William and Cynthia Clifford; second, Charles Bartlett and Allie Boyer; third, Doug and Betty Sise.
Another game will be played at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 31, at the center. A partner is guaranteed.
The club also met on Aug. 25 at Schooner Estates in Auburn. A STaC tournament was held and the winners in Flight A were: first, Roger Briggs and Claire Lyons; second, Leslie Lord and Rosemarie Goodwin; third, Larry Fortier and Anna Vitiello; fourth, Jeanine Kivus and Martine Begert.
Winners in Flight B were: first, Roger Briggs and Claire Lyons; second, Larry Fortier and Anna Vitiello; third, Jeanine Kivus and Martine Begert; fourth, Leslie Buzzell and Misha Tomic.
