OXFORD Selectmen voted Wednesday to grant tax-exempt status to a religious camp on Whitney Pond.
The vote found that the William S. Dunn Memorial Foundation Inc. was exempt from $19,000 in real and personal property taxes as of April 1.
Selectmen, meeting with a lawyer, found that the camp met the criteria for a charitable foundation entitled to tax-exempt status, said interim Town Manager Sharon Jackson. She said the camp applied last year for the tax-exempt status, and that Wednesdays vote was the culmination of its application process with the town.
The nonprofit foundation owns a group of camps on about 18 lots, and was organized in 1963, Jackson said.
