LEWISTON – Dorothy Elizabeth Tarleton passed away on Thursday, Aug. 26, at Marshwood Center for Health Care and Rehabilitation where she had been a resident for the past four years.

Born in Sydney, Australia, on June 10, 1908, to Captain Tom and Elizabeth Lowery. She moved to Maine, in 1990, to live with her daughter and son-in-law, Elizabeth and Rob Hoy of 39 Manning Ave., Lewiston.

For 53 years, she lived in her home at Woodford on the Blue Mountains in Australia. She was known for her beautiful garden and her gardening skills. She loved to read and write poetry, tell tall stories and was a skillful dressmaker.

After relocating to Maine, she enjoyed many lovely outings in New England with the Greene Seniors Association. Because of her distinct Australian accent, club members affectionately called her “Crocodile Dundee.”

Her surviving family consists of her eldest son, David Gibbs Tarleton and his wife, Grace Tarleton, of Manly, Sydney, Australia; her daughter, Lois Elizabeth Hoy and husband, Robert Victor Hoy, of Lewiston; her granddaughter, Darcy Elizabeth Ames, and great-grandson, Calvin Robert, of Hartford.

She was predeceased by her husband of 57 years, Roger Gibbs Tarleton, and her youngest son, Roger James Tarleton who died in Townsville, Queensland, Australia in November of 2000.
