AUBURN – Music Together of Lewiston/Auburn, a parent/child music and movement program, will conduct free demonstration classes during the first week of September in Turner and Greene.

During a class, 12 children and their parents or caregivers meet for 45 minutes each week for 10 weeks to experience new songs, chants, movement activities and instrumental jam sessions.

Each semester is based on a collection of 40 songs through which the elements of music, such as melody, harmony and rhythm, are explored. Each family receives the collection of songs on CD, tape and in book form as part of the registration fee.

The adults and children sit in the circle and participate, led by a teacher with early childhood and music skills. Children have the opportunity to play instruments and improvise and dance to different styles and tonalities.

The goal of Music Together is to develop every child’s opportunity for basic music competence by encouraging experience rather than learning information about music. Families are encouraged to attend class together, so younger children and older children in the same family can learn music and movement activities to do at home.

A free demonstration class will be held at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 2, at the Turner Village Church, 143 Main St. A class will be held at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday Sept. 7, at the VFW Hall, Main Street, next to Greene Central School.

Music Together of Lewiston/Auburn will begin the fall semester the week of Sept. 13, with classes at the Auburn United Methodist Church, Park Avenue, on Thursday and Friday mornings, at the VFW Hall in Greene on Tuesday mornings and at the Turner Village Church on Thursday mornings.
