SABATTUS – The Sabattus PTA invites all scrapbooking enthusiasts to its third annual Croppin’ for Kids’ Sake event on Saturday, Nov. 13, at the Lewiston Armory, 65 Central Ave. Registration for the day is under way.

This year optional extended hours will be offered. The event will start at 9 a.m. and attendees will have the choice of staying until either 5 or 10 p.m. Early registration is recommended since the event has sold out in the prior two years.

All proceeds will be used to fund educational and family programs and activities for the children of Sabattus Primary and Central schools.

This year’s crop will include many of the features in the past, such as meals, hourly door prize drawings, gift bags with scrapping products and coupons, make-and-take projects, a “Fall Fun” page contest, baked goods and snacks and more than 30 raffle items.

This year, a grand prize raffle is a scrapping retreat weekend for 10 at a retreat center in the Tacoma Lakes area. Also new this year will be the addition of a tool center, sponsored by KISS Events, featuring the free use of various die cut machines and tools.

Fourteen vendors from Maine and New Hampshire will be on hand. Many of the vendors will attend national trade shows and return with the newest products in time for the event. Many vendors will also demonstrate products and offer make-and-take projects.

“Sometimes we feel a little guilty taking time for ourselves, but this time can be justified easily because we are producing treasured family albums that will be cherished forever,” said Cindy Soucy, Croppin’ for Kids’ Sake’s chairwoman. “And since you will be here working, you might as well indulge in the goodies and fun we have in store! Just getting to catch up with old scrapping friends that you meet at other crops is a big part of the day. It is a huge social event.”

Past attendee Rachel Charette agreed. “I heard so many wonderful things about the first crop from all my friends, I made sure to attend the second one. From start to finish, it was an awesome day. Quick registration, spacious working area, plentiful food and snacks, impressive raffles and door prizes, supplies at your fingertips, friends and supportive participants all made it sad for the day to end!”

Another part of the day is the chance to collect canned goods and other household and nonperishable food items for the Sabattus area food pantry. “Last year we were able to fill a station wagon with items, and this year, we hope for even more,” said Soucy.

She said, “We will be bringing a scale and, as an incentive, will give one extra door prize ticket for every pound of food donated. The items most in need are detergent, potatoes, shampoo, canned goods, pasta, peanut butter, coffee, condiments and similar household and nonperishable food items. We have set a goal of obtaining 1,000 pounds of food and needed items.”

A special prize will be given to the person bringing the most pounds.
