NORWAY – Plans for a sidewalk that would run the length of Marston Street will not be ready in time for a Board of Selectmen meeting tonight.

At the board’s Aug. 19 meeting, Rob Prue of Pine Tree Engineering was asked to draw up preliminary plans for the proposed sidewalk. Prue said he would try to have something ready for this week.

“We’re not ready yet,” he said Wednesday, adding that a meeting on the Marston Street sidewalk will be scheduled later.

A sidewalk proposed for Pearl Street will be discussed tonight, however.

Town officials have talked about building a sidewalk that would run down one side of Pearl Street between Deering and Cottage streets. The sidewalk would be put in as part of the ongoing road, sewer and sidewalk improvements in that area.

There was a question of whether Pearl Street is wide enough to accommodate a sidewalk. Town officials have said they believe a sidewalk was there once, but the remains have since been buried under people’s lawns.

At the Aug. 19 meeting, Prue said the town will need to decide whether to place a sidewalk on Pearl Street within two to three weeks in order to have the work coincide with other, related projects.
