GREENE – Rob Robbins, pianist/vocalist, will entertain at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 9, and 2 and 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 10, at the Sawyer Memorial, 371 Sawyer Road. Admission is free, and the doors will open one hour before the show. At the age of 16, Robbins began his musical career as a pianist/vocalist in the lounge at Lakewood Theatre, Madison. Headliners such as Milton Berle and Della Reese found their way to the lounge after their evening’s performance where they gathered around the piano, giving Robbins pointers on how to entertain and capture an audience. Since that summer in 1978, Robbins has performed in first-rate hotels, resorts and restaurants from Maine to Florida.
In Kennebunkport, Robbins played house jobs at the Shawmut Inn, Cafe Tophers, the Port Gardens Inn and the Colony Hotel. In addition, he had his own house band at the Sheraton Hotel, the original Valle’s Steak House and his current summer engagement at the Bethel Inn and Country Club.
As the seasons changed, Robbins found himself heading to the southern states. He held four summer seasons at Cafe Europa in Harbour Town on Hilton Head Island, S.C., and began what would become a 10-year winter engagement at the Colony Hotel in Delray Beach, Fla. In 1998 Robbins spent a winter performing in some of Atlanta’s night clubs.
Robbins divides his time between Florida and Maine. He also performs for numerous events and private parties. Robbins continues to participate in Jazz on the Avenue and the Delray Affair in Delray Beach.
