LIVINGSTON, Texas (AP) – Four people were found shot to death inside a burning mobile home Thursday, and a relative in his 70s admitted to the shooting and surrendered, police said.

Sheriff Billy Ray Nelson identified the victims as the man’s wife, daughter, son-in-law and teenage grandson. The deaths may be related to the older couple’s marital problems, the sheriff said.

“When he turned himself in he showed no signs of remorse,” Nelson said. “He was very calm. He just wanted to report it.”

The names of the victims and the man were withheld pending notification of relatives.

Deputies responding to the scene found the mobile home on fire and called firefighters. The home sustained mainly smoke damage. The man did not mention a fire when he surrendered and it wasn’t immediately known how the fire started.

Firefighters found the bodies of three people in a bedroom and the other in the kitchen. Nelson said the home belonged to the man’s daughter and son-in-law. He said the man’s wife had left their nearby home and moved in with her daughter.

Nelson said officers found a .38-caliber revolver in the man’s home that they believe was the used in the shootings.

Nelson said he believed authorities had been called out before on disputes between the couple but he didn’t immediately have details on those incidents.

The deaths occurred at the Escapees RV Club, a trailer park about 75 miles northeast of Houston.

One neighbor told Houston television station KHOU the man was upset about his wife wanting a divorce after 51 years of marriage.

“After she left him, he said, ‘I’m not going to take a bath. I’m not going to cut my hair. I’m not going to shave until she comes back,”‘ Dan Davenport said.

The RV park is part of nearly 20 such parks around the country run by or connected to the Escapees RV Club, which was started in 1978 to help people enjoy their recreational vehicles full-time.

Livingston serves as headquarters for the club, which has 60,000 members around the United States and Canada.
