LEWISTON – Muriel Rose DesLauriers, 88, of Lewiston, passed away Thursday, Sept. 2, after a short illness. Her daughter, Rose, lovingly cared for her at home during her last illness.

She was born in Lewiston April 1, 1916, the daughter of M. Roseanne Sirois and Emile Edmond Dube. She attended Lewiston schools.

On Dec. 18, 1941 in Lewiston, she married the love of her life, Joseph Henri DesLauriers. He later died on July 26, 1958, a victim of an automobile accident.

She was a former member of Ste. Famille Parish in Lewiston and more recently of St. Joseph’s Church in Lewiston.

She was a loving mother and grandmother who especially enjoyed knitting, and was well-known for her baby afghans. Muriel was also loved for her wonderful, ringing laughter.

She is survived by four children, Philip H. DesLauriers and his wife, Sally Robbins, of North Haven, Marc E. DesLauriers and his wife, Deborah Firestone, of Portland, Robert J. DesLauriers and his wife, Wesley Neff, of Winterport, and Rose Marie DesLauriers and her life partner, P. Dianne Hankerson, of Boynton Beach, Fla.; three grandchildren, Robyn L. DesLauriers of Bangor, Todd R. DesLauriers of Winterport, Anna L. DesLauriers of Portland, and two adopted grandchildren, Nichole and Jimmy Neff, of Augusta. She is also survived by a host of other relatives and friends.

Besides her husband and parents, Muriel was predeceased by three infant children, Marie, Joseph, and Linda, as well as by her brother, Emile Raymond Dube.
