WILTON – Selectmen will discuss the repair or replacement of a damaged police cruiser when they meet Tuesday. The meeting begins at 7 p.m. at the town office.

While selectmen had planned to discuss possible assistance to the town in hiring a new police chief, this has been postponed to their regular meeting Sept. 21. Maine Chiefs of Police Association President Robert Schwartz will meet with selectmen then to discuss how he could be helpful in the process.

Longtime Chief James Parker retired after 23 years in that position. His last day on the job is Wednesday. Officials appointed Wilton Police Officer Ed Leahy as interim chief until they can find a permanent one.

Selectmen will hear reports from the sewer and highway departments. Sewer Department Superintendent Russ Mathers will make a budget presentation for the upcoming year. Highway Department foreman John Welch will give his quarterly report as well.

Officials plan to appoint Joe Marsden as a regular member of the town’s Planning Board and sign a letter of appreciation to Ted Keiler, who recently resigned from that board. They will also consider establishing a limit on the amount of brush accepted per customer per day at the Wilton Transfer Station.

Selectmen will open bids for the clearing of trees and brush from the water transmission line and Town Manager Peter Nielsen will let officials know about the schedule for an upcoming Maine Municipal Association informational meeting for town officials concerning the Palesky referendum.
