DEER ISLE (AP) – Counselors were present Tuesday at Deer Isle Stonington Elementary School to help students deal with the death of a sixth-grader in an all-terrain vehicle accident.
Joseph L. Brown, 11, was fatally injured Monday when he struck a cable while riding alone in his ATV along a gravel road off Route 15, the Maine Warden Service said.
Brown had many close friends and relatives in the student population and on the staff, according to Principal Catherine Ring.
“This has hit us pretty hard,” Ring said.
“He was a well-liked child by both students and adults,” she said. “He will be sorely missed.”
