AUBURN – The city will hold a special referendum Tuesday, Sept. 14, on an elementary school that would replace Lake Street School. Votes may be cast from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the Auburn City Building on Spring Street.
A public informational meeting on the project Sept. 8 will be rebroadcast at 5 p.m. today on Great Falls TV.
The project would cost $9.7 million, with the state picking up 84 percent of the cost. If voters also approve a larger gym and air conditioning, Auburn will have to pay an additional $635,000 on its own.
The aging Lake Street School, a neighborhood school serving 125 students in kindergarten through grade three, is overcrowded and in disrepair. Set on 10 acres, the new school would house 325 students up to grade six.
