AUBURN – Less than four weeks after acquiring an Atlanta-based die maker, a local die company has purchased another out-of-state company.

GlobalDie, a subsidiary of Enefco International, bought New Era Die of Pennsylvania earlier this month. The transaction was completed through a bankruptcy proceeding.

New Era was a manufacturer of cutting, trimming and stamping dies. According to Enefco CEO Peter Klein, the purchase should bring additional work and jobs to the Minot Avenue plant.

“We know our phone has been ringing up to five times per day (with orders for dies),” said Klein. “They range between $100 to $5,000 a phone call.”

According to Jimmie Timmons, marketing director for Enefco, the company is in the early stages of assessing how the acquisition will affect production. But Timmons said he expects many new die-making jobs will result.

“We’re anticipating hiring into the double digits … 10 to 20 is easily a good bet,” he said.

New Era specialized in cutting dies for the leather industry. It has supplied dies for the shoe and luggage industries since 1937 and was a primary supplier of cutting dies for leather car interiors.

In early August, GlobalDie purchased another die maker, Industrial Die of Atlanta. The Auburn manufacturer expects to acquire a new company every three months. The purchase of New Era puts them ahead of schedule, said Klein.

Enefco specializes in precision cutting in a range of industries. It makes products as wide-ranging as shoe components, cleaning devices for electronic money machines and precision foam cutouts.
