PHOENIX – Barry Bonds hit his 699th home run, and the San Francisco Giants regained the NL wild-card lead with a 5-2 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks on Sunday.
Bonds walked twice, increasing his record total to 203, then took a called third strike and grounded out before homering in the ninth off Mike Koplove, a drive off the bottom of the center-field scoreboard that was estimated at 460 feet.
Jason Schmidt (16-6) pitched a four-hitter, struck out nine and walked two in his fourth complete game of the season, retiring 21 consecutive batters in one stretch.
Marlins 11, Cubs 1
CHICAGO – Juan Pierre had three of Florida’s 15 hits, A.J. Burnett pitched eight strong innings and the Marlins beat the Chicago Cubs 11-1 Sunday to earn a split of their four-game series.
Alex Gonzalez hit a two-run double and Paul Lo Duca added a two-run single for the Marlins, who entered the day 2 games behind the Cubs in the NL wild-card race.
Angels 11, White Sox 0
ANAHEIM, Calif. – Bartolo Colon pitched seven sharp innings, Garret Anderson drove in three runs and the Anaheim Angels beat the Chicago White Sox 11-0 Sunday.
Coming off a 13-6 loss Saturday, the Angels staked Colon (15-11) to a 7-0 lead by the third inning and took two of three games from Chicago.

ATLANTA – Andruw Jones hit a winning double in the 12th inning to lead the Atlanta Braves over the Montreal Expos 9-8 Sunday after John Smoltz blew a three-run lead in the ninth.

DETROIT – Terry Tiffee, Torii Hunter and Cristian Guzman homered Sunday to lead the Minnesota Twins to their fifth straight win, 8-5 over the Detroit Tigers.

LOS ANGELES – Larry Walker went 4-for-5 with two homers and three RBIs, powering the St. Louis Cardinals to a 7-6 victory over Los Angeles on Sunday and ending the Dodgers’ five-game winning streak.

NEW YORK – Vicente Padilla pitched 6 2-3 shutout innings in his best start since coming off the disabled list and led the Philadelphia Phillies over the New York Mets 4-2 Sunday to complete a three-game sweep.

CINCINNATI – Russell Branyan and Brady Clark combined for three home runs and six RBIs against their former team, and the Milwaukee Brewers beat the Cincinnati Reds 11-0 Sunday for a split of their four-game series.

ARLINGTON, Texas – Mark Teixeira homered twice, including a two-run shot in the eighth inning that sent the Texas Rangers past the Toronto Blue Jays 7-6 Sunday for a three-game sweep.
Padres 15, Rockies 2
DENVER – Brian Giles hit a tiebreaking solo homer in the eighth inning, then capped a 12-run ninth with a three-run homer Sunday in the San Diego Padres’ 15-2 rout of the Colorado Rockies.
San Diego, which began the day 2 games behind the Chicago Cubs and San Francisco in the NL wild-card race, had 18 hits and won for just the fourth time in 12 games.
With the score 2-all in the eighth, Giles connected off Steve Reed (3-6) to reach 20 homers for the sixth straight season.
San Diego tied a team record with 10 hits in the ninth and finished one run shy of the team record for an inning. Ramon Hernandez singled and doubled in the inning, and Sean Burroughs tripled and singled.
Burroughs started the ninth-inning scoring with a two-run triple off Brian Fuentes. Phil Nevin hit an RBI single off Tim Harikkala that made it 6-2, and Jay Payton had a two-run double. Kerry Robinson and Ramon Hernandez hit run-scoring singles for a 10-2 lead.
Terrence Long and Burroughs hit RBI singles against Chris Giselle, and Giles completed the scoring with a three-run homer.
Jake Peavy (12-5), coming off losses in consecutive starts, allowed two runs and seven hits in eight innings and struck out eight.
Jamey Wright gave up two runs and six hits in seven innings and got a no-decision for the fifth time this year at Coors Field.
Nevin’s two-run single in the third but San Diego ahead. Todd Helton homered in the fourth inning for the Rockies, reaching 30 homers for the sixth year in a row, and Colorado tied the score with an unearned run in the sixth. Helton had a one-out single and moved to third when Xavier Nady dropped Vinny Castilla’s fly ball in left and threw past second baseman Mark Loretta trying to throw out Helton. Jeromy Burnitz followed with a sacrifice fly.
