The Oxford County Democrats, in collaboration with the Bridgton and Jay Democratic Committees, completed the start-up of local field offices during the week of Sept. 6.
Offices are open at 196 Walkers Mills Road in Bethel, 49 Main St. in Bridgton, 1 Turner St. in Buckfield, 77 Main St. in Mexico, 273 Main St. in Norway, and 150 Main St. in Jay.
Office hours vary, with Mexico and Norway offices open weekdays and Saturdays, and the remaining offices still establishing hours.
Coordinators for the offices include Julie McDonald and Lew Irish in Mexico at 369-0020, Rosita Friel in Buckfield at 336-2511, Hilary Ware in Norway at 729-2504, Barbra Barrett in Bethel at 824-4814, Paul Gilbert and Barbara Cook in Jay at 897-4535, and Jane Campino in Bridgton at 647-8572. All offices have a supply of Kerry and Michaud campaign materials, as well as materials for local candidates. All offices welcome volunteers.
The Democrats’ Oxford County Fair booth will be staffed by local volunteers from Sept. 15 to 18. Myra Bethel of Fryeburg has been named coordinator for the Fryeburg Fair booth scheduling. Volunteers interested in helping staff the booth during the Oct. 3-10 fair may contact her.

Auditions set for Christmas show
RUMFORD – The Rumford Association for the Advancement of Performing Arts is asking for people to present its Christmas show.
The original production offers acting opportunities for men and women. The male and female leads will have much of the dialog with a solo song for the male lead.
Auditions will be held at the Mountain Valley High School Muskie Auditorium at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 24. Selected script will be available for viewing at the Rumford Public Library beginning Wednesday, Sept. 15. Performances are Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 4 and 5. Snowmobilers meeting Sunday
DIXFIELD – The Poodunck Snowmobile Club will hold a gathering beginning at 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 19, at the Webb River Valley Sportsmen Clubhouse on the Canton Point Road. The club is having a cookout and all last year’s members and their families are invited. Food and beverages will be provided. Anyone interested in joining this year are also invited. Soccer Shoot-out planned Sunday
RUMFORD – The Rumford Lodge of Elks No. 862 will host its annual Soccer Shoot-out for all area children. This will be held Sunday, Sept. 19, at the upper field at Hosmer Field. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. with the shootout starting at 9 a.m. All participants must be accompanied by a parent to sign a consent form and provide a copy of their birth certificate. There will be a girls and boys division for ages 7 and under, 8 and 9, 10 and 11, and 12 and 13. Prizes will be awarded to the first, second and third place winners. All participants will receive a certificate. The first place winners will advance to the Central District Shoot-out at the Augusta Elks Lodge on Sunday, Oct. 10, and then the first place winners from there will advance to the state shoot-out at the Augusta Elks Lodge on Sunday, Oct. 17. Coalition sets networking meeting
RUMFORD – The next Community Networking Meeting, sponsored by the River Valley Healthy Communities Coalition is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 22. The meeting will be held in the conference room of the Rumford Municipal Building.

Supper and folk music
PERU – A homemade supper with live folk music is scheduled for Sept. 25 at the Rockemeka Grange Hall on Center Street. Sponsored by the Peru Historical Society and the Families in Crises Task Force, the benefit will raise money for renovating the century old town-owned hall. Supper will be served from 5 to 6:30 p.m., and the music show will begin at 7 p.m. Tickets for the supper are $6 for adults, $3 for kids. Tickets to the show are $5, or $2 for those attending the supper.
Candidates breakfast planned at UMF
FARMINGTON – The Western Maine Legislative Caucus will sponsor a candidates breakfast at 7 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 7, at the University of Maine at Farmington at the Olson Student Center. The caucus will distribute its fourth copy of western Maine candidate’s responses to a comprehensive questionnaire focused on regional and state issues. The Western Maine Legislative Caucus is a partnership of sponsoring organizations: the University of Maine at Farmington, the Mission at the Eastward, SAD 9, the Franklin Community Health Network, Western Maine Community Action and the Alliance.
