OTISFIELD – The sixth-grade parents and students will hold a yard and bake sale and bottle drive from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 18, at the Otisfield Community Hall, Route 121.

A variety of items have been collected for sale, including small appliances, small furniture, games, old lanterns and books. Proceeds will benefit the class trip to Boston.

The class is accepting donations of quality goods up until the day before the sale. Contact Ruth Wilson at [email protected] for details.

Sunday speaker

PARIS – Silver Moore-Leamon will be the speaker at the First Universalist Church, 36 Pine Street, South Paris, Sunday, Sept. 19. Her sermon will be “Take Your Shoes Off.” She will share thoughts on the nature of God.

The organ voluntaries will begin at 9:50 a.m. with the service beginning at 10. The music will be under the direction of Forest Perkins, church organist, with Jeannie Whittemore, soloist. Child care is provided. The service will be followed by the coffee hour in Good Cheer Hall. Everyone is welcome.

Tai chi classes

NORWAY – Beginner tai chi classes will be offered at Stephens Memorial Hospital starting Monday, Sept. 27. Tai chi is an ancient Chinese movement art that improves balance and coordination, enhances flexibility and reduces stress.

The class will be taught by Betsey Foster, MPH. She has studied tai chi and qi gong since the 1980s, has taught since 1993 and is a student of Dr. Yang, Jwing-ming of Boston. The class is suitable for all ages and abilities. It will meet from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Mondays for eight weeks. To register or for information, call Betsey Foster at 875-2426.
