POLAND – Jamel Torres and Josh Cartier each netted an unassisted goal as Fryeburg Academy topped Poland 2-0 in boys’ WMC soccer action Wednesday.
Brad Foster was solid in net for the Raiders’ win, stopping six shots to preserve the shutout. The Knights (0-4) effort was paced by goalkeeper Max Levine who turned away 16 shots.
Telstar 2, Mountain Valley 0
BETHEL – Stephen Scotti tallied two goals off of passes from Louis Thorton to lead Telstar to a 2-0 victory over Mountain Valley in soccer action Wednesday afternoon.
Dual strikers, Scotti and Thorton, scored both goals the same way. After a cross from the outside to the keeper, Thorton picked up the ball and passed it to Scotti who tapped it in both times.
Terry Collins made five saves in the cage for Telstar to preserve the shutout.
Carrabec 4, Jay 0
JAY – Jason Cummings tore up the field Wednesday in Jay, putting four goals on the board to lead Carrabec to a 4-0 shutout victory over Jay in boys’ soccer.
Cummings put the Cobras (3-2) on the board at 6:30 into the first half when he scored off a corner kick.
Tom Therrian made 20 saves in net to notch the win, and was involved in a late-game collision that rendered him briefly unconscious. Therrian was attended to by a trainer and was reported to be feeling better shortly after the incident.
Shane Bourgault turned away an impressive 28 shots in net for the Tigers (1-3).
Mt. Abram 4, Livermore Falls 1
LIVERMORE FALLS – Sam Witherspoon scored a hat-trick as Mt. Abram rolled past Livermore Falls to post a 4-1 victory in MVC boys’ soccer Wednesday evening.
Aaron Adams scored for the Roadrunners (5-0) win as well. Mt. Abram played a solid game, outshooting Livermore Falls 38-4, and held the edge in corners 10-0.
The Andies’ (0-4) lone goal was netted by Corey Flagg.

Field hockey
Lisbon 3, Hall-Dale 0
LISBON – Erica Merrit netted a pair of goals as Lisbon rolled past Hall-Dale 3-0 in MVC field hockey action Wednesday.
Emily Poloquin also scored for the Greyhounds (4-1), while Bethany Williams and Kristin Lafley combined for two saves in net. The Bulldogs (2-2) were outshot 16-8 on the day.
Freeport 2, St. Dom’s 1
FREEPORT – Nichole Engel posted the game-winning goal 13:45 into the second half of the game to give Freeport a 2-1 victory over St. Dom’s in field hockey Wednesday.
Amy Kearns netted the first goal, and Alex Heinz had both assists for the Falcons’ (1-3) first win this season.
Although St. Dom’s (3-1) dominated the game, the Saints only recorded one goal by Michela Fyler off a pass from Elisha Dorso in the second half of the contest.
Traip 4, Poland 3
POLAND – Sara Lamarca scored an unassisted goal with 5:44 left in the second overtime to lift Traip to a 4-3 victory over Poland in a nail-biter of a WMC girls’ soccer matchup.
Jessica Collins, Jesse Lawson and Kelly Huddlesten also scored for the Rangers (1-3-1) to complete the scoring. Paige Dubay made an impressive 24 saves in net to notch the win. Jessica Hodgkiss and Becky Lindquist tallied first-half goals for the Knights (0-4), while Brittany Copp scored with just 57 seconds left in regulation to force the game into overtime.
Elsie Cummings turned away three shots in net for Poland.
