The Sun Journal article Sept. 10 regarding first lady Laura Bush’s visit to Lewiston is a great example of the media’s unfettered desire to spoil anything positive for the Bush campaign, while ignoring the threat that protesters pose.

While the title, “Tickets for first lady’s Lewiston speech gone,” clearly indicates that Mrs. Bush is a popular first lady, it is not well enough for many members of the media to leave the story at that. Nearly half of the article is focused on Democrats possibly not being allowed to obtain tickets for the event.

Have some of us forgotten about the disruptions of protesters at the Republican National Convention or at recent campaign events, such as a speech by President Bush in Pennsylvania, where audience members quickly disposed of the troublemakers? Why should the Bush campaign have taken the risk of having crazy hecklers taunt Mrs. Bush, or worse, try to attack her? We know that many of these protesters are unable to control their behavior, and have no regard for civil discourse or respect.

In my mind, Democrats who were unable to attend Mrs. Bush’s speech in Lewiston can thank these protesters, who rarely fail to show their true colors, for their disappointment.
