FARMINGTON – The Arts Institute Noontime Music series will have its first concert of the fall from 12:15 to 12:45 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 22, in Nordica Auditorium at the University of Maine at Farmington. The first concert features Patricia Hayden, Carol Hedden and Moira Wolohan playing piano, recorder and cello. As in the past, these concerts are free and open to the public. Donations are accepted, but not solicited, at the door.
The second concert on Sept. 29 will feature a soprano, Atsuko Hirai from Bates College, who will be accompanied by Frank Glazer, one of Maine’s premier piano players.
This fall, the series will feature “laid-back brass” on Oct. 6, performing such tunes as “Shoutin’ Lisa Trombone” and “Tuba Tiger Rag”; the Smith Brothers, Jay and Shane, on Oct. 13; and the Mt. Blue High School Jazz Band on Oct. 27. Don “Fatty” Emery and Steve Levine will perform Mississippi Delta Blues on Nov. 3; and Ross Swain will play ragtime piano on Nov. 10. The series will close on Nov. 17 with a recital by soprano Kate Reid, accompanied by Patricia Hayden.
