FARMINGTON – Sandy River Players will hold joint auditions for two upcoming productions starting at 1 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 25 and 26, in Nordica Auditorium at the University of Maine at Farmington. The productions will be “Inherit the Wind” by Robbins and Lee and “An Evening of Vaudeville,” a Sandy River Player’s fund-raiser.
Directed by Dan Ryder, “An Evening of Vaudeville,” intends to recapture the classic variety show atmosphere of the early 20th century. The show seeks a wide range of performers including jazz, folk, opera and traditional singers; tap, clog, ballet and folk dancers; accordion, banjo, ukulele, piano, guitar and fiddle players in addition to other musicians; ventriloquists, clowns, acrobats, magicians and other performers with unique talents. Those who audition are asked to have an audition piece prepared and to provide their own accompaniment if necessary. Ages 10 and up may audition. Performances will occur during the last weekend of October.
The second production, “Inherit the Wind,” directed by Jayne Decker, presents a story of convictions and values based on the famous Scopes monkey trial. Roles for people of all ages, both singing and non-singing, are available with 18 men and seven to 10 women sought. Individuals interested in singing a solo should prepare an audition with “Amazing Grace.” The show opens in January.
