AUBURN – Police were searching around the Auburn Mall late Friday after an employee reported she was robbed of several thousand dollars by three teens as she left the building.

No one was hurt in the 9:45 p.m. heist but the suspects were believed to have made off with more than $2,000.

The victim told investigators she was leaving Lamey-Wellehan shoe store when she was approached by three teens who demanded money.

No weapon was displayed, police said, but the store employee was threatened. She returned to the store after the suspects fled, and police were notified about the robbery.

Several officers responded to the mall but there was no sign of the suspects. It was unclear whether they left on foot or in a vehicle.

The mall was closed when the Lamey-Wellehan employee was robbed. Investigators were told the suspects may have been shopping at the mall a short time before the robbery occurred.

Lamey-Wellahan is a short distance from the main entrance to the mall. It was believed the employee was leaving a private exit when she was approached by the trio.

An hour after the robbery was reported, police were still at the mall searching for suspects.
