AUBURN – Frieda Barr, of Auburn, died Friday, Sept. 17, at the Clover Living Center in Auburn. She was 103 years old.
Born Frieda Glasser in Revere, Mass. on March 25, 1901, the daughter of Benjamin and Celia Glasser, Frieda lived and worked in the Boston area through her early years.
She married Arthur Barr in 1923 and eventually moved to Auburn in 1933.
There, she and her husband raised their family, spending summers in Old Orchard Beach and, later in life, winters in Florida.
After her children were grown, Frieda and Arthur became something of a fixture at the Seabrook, N.H., dog track, where she was famous for consistently picking the winning dog.
She remained in her family house on Davis Avenue until 1999, when, because of declining health, she moved into the Clover Living Center.
She is survived by her five children; Benjamin and wife, Lois, of Auburn, Richard, of Yarmouth, Sumner and his partner, Howard Fine, and Burt and his wife, Trisha, all of New York City, and Elaine and her husband, Michael Sandler, of Framingham, Mass.; eight grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband, Arthur Barr.
