WOODSTOCK – The following officers were elected at the annual meeting of the Woodstock Historical Society: president, Mary Billings; vice president, Vicki May; secretary, Elaine Roberts; treasurer, Paul Billings; and new trustee, Olive Risko.
Larry Billings is curator for the 25th year. Olive Risko is chairman of the board of trustees and Elena Noyes is vice chairman.
Committees will be announced soon by the new president. She gave members a chance to sign up for what they wanted before appointing people. Larry Billings signed up to do the program in November, which is the official anniversary of the society. He was president the first year and has been curator ever since.
During the business meeting members voted to buy a new coffee pot. Risko read a research report on the Oxford County Bears and spoke about a meeting she had on Paris Hill where they planned the county’s bicentennial. She learned there that people in Oxford County years ago were called “Bears” derogatorily by Whigs because so many Jacksonian Democrats lived in the county.
Refreshments were supplied by Annella Burnham and Elena Noyes. The society closed its museum at the end of August after a successful summer. The next meeting will be Saturday, Oct. 9, at 7 p.m. at the museum. A program has not been planned yet.
